A female student in junior secondary class three (JS3) at Iponri Estate High School, Surulere, Lagos, Latifat Musa has surprisingly picked Croatia icon Luka Modric as her biggest inspiration in football.

Sports247 reports that, rather than name a female player as her role model, Latifat revealed that Modric motivates her with his style and calm appearance while playing on the pitch.

The petite midfielder explained her choice, saying: “Although I like the achievements that Asisat Oshoala has been able to get for herself and Nigeria, the type of game I like is that of Modric.

“Asisat scores many good goals and she can run, but Modric can mark and throw perfect passes. I also like the way he behaves when he’s playing. He’s always calm.”

Incidentally, the dazzling young lass, who plays as an attacking midfielder for Sunshine Football Academy of Ijora, Lagos, has a striking physical resemblance with Super Falcons’ captain, Rasheedat Ajibade.

She acknowledged the huge impact Ajibade has also made for herself and Nigerian football, all of which Latifat said she hopes to do better than when she becomes a full-time footballer after school.

Latifat concluded, “I want to be a professional footballer when I grow up. I am currently learning how to be a good player both in school and at a football academy.

“Our Basic Science teacher, Mr Bisiriyu Ganiyu, is the one who teaches me football skills in the school and my coach at Sunshine Football Academy is Ganiyu Owolabi.”
