Highly respected and versatile grassroots football coach, Osahon Emokpae will virtually come alive on Saturday, October 3rd when a competition holds in his memory at Federal Housing Authority (FHA) Stadium in FESTAC Town, Lagos.
Sports247 reports that this follows spirited efforts by the secretary general of Nigerian Grassroots Football Federation (NGFF), Pastor Oscar Ezinwa Emmanuel to package a befitting send off event for the founder and head coach of Young Stars FC of Satellite Town, Lagos.
With the club having produced Super Eagles’ striker, Paul Ebere Onuachu among many other top players of the moment, Pastor Oscar reckoned that a befitting carnival-like football competition should hold in lasting memory of the man who made it possible.
The grassroots football expert and president of Pison Divine Royals International Sports Promotions also recalled the selfless service Coach Osahon gave as pioneer gaffer of the junior squad at National Grassroots Dream Team and later with Vejle Football Academy, which produced Anthony Nwakaeme.
‘TM’ Oscar revealed, “I am happy that the leader of Iba Coaches Council, who is also the chairman of ECAS FC, has agreed to support us to stage a one-day competition in honour of our late coach.
“We have now proposed October 3rd as the tentative date for the competition at FHA Stadium, but we will now have eight teams instead of 12 that were initially planned last month.
“The interesting thing about this new date is that it is two days after Coach Osahon’s birthday. So, we will give him a posthumous celebration with many grassroots football stakeholders expected to be present.”
Sports247 gathered further that Eswatini-based clergyman, Pastor Victor Macdonald, who employed Osahon at Vejle Football Academy, a year after he connected the coach to Enyimba Feeders of Aba, has promised to sponsor prizes for highest goals scorer, best keeper and MVP of the carnival.
