The Lagos State University (LASU) women’s football team, popularly known as the LASU Queens, are set to fly Africa’s flag at the 2025 Fédération Internationale du Sport Universitaire (FISU) University World Cup Football in Dalian, China.
The prestigious tournament will kick off on Tuesday, September 16, and run through Sunday, September 28, 2025.

As African champions, LASU Queens will compete in the women’s football event, which features 8 top university teams from across the globe.
The draw places LASU in Group A alongside Shanghai University of Sport (China), University of the Extreme South of Santa Catarina (Brazil), and University of Valencia (Spain).
Group B includes Beijing Normal University (China), University of Sydney (Australia), Polytechnic University of Hauts-de-France (France), and Laval Rouge et Or (Canada).
The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals, with winners progressing to the final.
Ahead of their departure, the LASU Queens held their final training session on Saturday, September 13, at the Sports Centre, LASU Main Campus, Ojo.
The session focused on tactical play and penalty shoot-outs as the team rounded off preparations before leaving for China on Sunday, September 14.
Assistant captain Busayo Kushoro expressed optimism about the team’s chances, highlighting their unity, hard work, and determination. “We are excited to be carrying the banner of LASU and representing Africa.”
The training has not been easy, but we have put in our best,” the final-year Marketing student said.
Kushoro added that the team is unfazed by their opponents and is prepared to take each game as it comes. She urged the LASU community and Nigerian football fans to continue supporting the team, stressing that the Queens have studied their rivals and believe they can cause an upset.
LASU secured their spot at the tournament after defeating the University of Lagos in the final of the 2024 All Africa University Games hosted at the LASU Sports Centre.
