Lagos Tigers Former Director David Okunlola Targets 2025 Sparta Cup Glory With Qatari Club

A former technical director at Lagos Tigers FC of Ibeju-Lekki, David Okunlola is targeting glory with Absolute Sports Academy of Doha, Qatar at this year’s Sparta Youth Football Championship, Sports247 reports.

Okunlola, who was fondly called ‘Coach David’ during his days in Lagos, reckoned that the experience he has gained over the years will help him achieve the espied cup success later this month.

The youthful tactician flaunted his achievements in grooming budding talents who have grown into future stars as well as the credentials he has acquired in terms of academic qualifications.

He disclosed, “I have worked with and I am still working with a lot of young elite players in Qatar. Before then, I also worked with many youth players in Nigeria … like Odunayo and Aleeyah.

“The ones I can mention in Qatar include Revish, Kelvin, Jake, Alvin, Alhan, Rhitwik, Ivan, and many others. I strongly believe they will make significant impacts in football internationally in the next 10 years.

“Additionally, I hold a BSc degree in Human Kinetics and MSc in Exercise Physiology from the University of Lagos. I am currently working on getting a UEFA C licence.”

He then spoke about his specific interests and strengths in youth football development, all of which he recalled helped him succeed with Lagos Tigers and are already uplifting him in Qatar.

Okunlola submitted: “I like building confident, intelligent, and resilient players through purposeful coaching. I also like exposing young players through regular friendly matches and participation in major competitions.

“That’s why Lagos Tigers participated every season in Junior Liga, Islanders League and LCC Champions Cup. At present, Absolute Sports Academy is participating in Qatar Youth League and we are currently preparing for Sparta Cup at the end of November.”
