Lagos State Table Tennis Association (LSTTA) has started its hunt for talented players who will carry their banner at the maiden National Intermediate Games from October 1st to 15th, Sports247 reports.
With a view towards ensuring that the contingent excels during the maiden edition of the multi-sports gathering, which the state will host, LSTTA chairman, Tunji Lawal disclosed that the preparations will be staged in the form of trials, in order to spot new talents alongside already known ones.
Lawal added that the exercise is also aimed at discovering a large number of talents who can help Lagos maintain its dominance in table tennis and assured that only players who excel during the trials and subsequent training process would get spots in the state’s ping-pong squad for Eko 2026.
He added that the one-day session, which took place this Saturday at Ikoyi Club 1938 in Ikoyi area of the metropolis, marks the officially trials to select players for the maiden National Intermediate Games, while setting the tone for future domination by the state in years to come.
“We want to ensure that we assemble a strong team that can battle against any opposition in the country. No player should feel indispensable. Only the best will earn the right to represent Lagos.
“Lagos is known for excellence, and we cannot go below this standard in our approach to the first National Intermediate Games,” Lawal stated, while emphasising that the trials will continue alongside regular training until the final squad is confirmed.
Sports247 gathered that seven boys and seven girls have been invited officially to participate in the trials, but attention will be given any other talented pplayer who turns up with high hopes and abilities to dislodge any of the already establised Lagos State teenage stars.
The invited girls are Aishat Rabiu, Ifeoluwa Ajasa, Faisat Musbau, Rianat Olanrewaju, Taiwo Akanbi, Halimat Rasheed, and Hayisat Zakariah; while the boys are Quadri Atunwon, Tobi Adebakin, Usman Ayoola, Ahmed Ayatulahi, Adeoye Hussein, Adesanya Sodiq and African under-19 champion, Matthew Kuti.
