Lagos State FA League Nears Super Four as Regular Season Enters Final Weeks

The Lagos State Football Association (LSFA) State League is heading into its final stretch, with the men’s league reaching week 12 and the women’s league approaching mid-season, according to LSFA CEO Mr. Wale Joseph.

Mr. Joseph confirmed that the 12th round of men’s games will be completed this weekend, leaving two to three weeks before the regular season ends. The women’s league, currently at week six, is also expected to conclude by week 12.

He announced that the Super Four — the championship stage featuring the top four teams from both the men’s and women’s divisions — is scheduled for mid-July, pending final confirmation of venues. The tournament will determine the 2024/2025 Lagos State League champions.

Mr. Joseph praised the high level of competition and officiating this season, noting that no major incidents have been reported. He highlighted the strong community engagement, with matches held across Epe, Agbowa, Ajegunle, Lagos Island, Ibeju Lekki, and Isheri Olofin.

Despite the league’s success, funding remains a major challenge. Mr. Joseph appealed to stakeholders, especially betting companies and brands with a focus on women’s products, to support the dual-gender grassroots initiative.

Each weekend, six games are played across both leagues, posing logistical challenges. However, the LSFA remains committed to completing the season successfully.

Mr. Joseph also emphasized the importance of sustaining the culture of local league football, warning against the growing trend of clubs buying their way into higher divisions like the Nationwide League One (NLO) without participating in state leagues.

He expressed hope for future expansion, including the introduction of Division Two, and called for continued support from stakeholders to maintain momentum beyond the current season.

The 2024/2025 LSFA League season is expected to conclude with the Super Four, capping off months of grassroots football development across Lagos communities.
