Sports activities are on hold at Lagos National Stadium, Surulere, as officials have shut the edifice in preparation for the presidential rally of All Progressive Congress (APC).
Although the rally is billed for Saturday at the adjacent Teslim Balogun Stadium, sports247.ng learnt security personnel have already taken over ‘SportsCity,’ as they aim to keep the premises secure for the presence of President Mohammadu Buhari at the occasion.
With that in mind, sports shops, restaurants, bars, business ventures and sports halls within the premises have all been placed under lock and key, as officials say no room will be allowed for miscreants to operate.
At the same time, a pause has been placed on athletes and youth clubs using the arena for training sessions, as officials say the area will serve as car park for delegates attending the south-west region rally.
An official declared: “President Muhammadu Buhari’s helicopter will land at the National Stadium. He will then take a walk down to Teslim Balogun Stadium for the rally.”
