Sports247 gathered that the Legends have called on the federal government to lead the way, alongside state governments and stakeholders in the sports sector, to give the football legend a befitting burial.

While describing Nwosu as ‘a national icon who deserves a dignified farewell,’ Lagos Legends disclosed that they have started their own part of the burial plans, but pointed out that the process should not be left for ex-players alone.

The club urged the governors of Edo, Lagos, Abia, Anambra and Enugu States to play their parts, while also urging Nigeria Football Federation, National Sports Commission and corporate bodies to support Nwosu’s burial arrangements.

While highlighting the importance of a befitting burial for Nwosu, Lagos Legends stated: “The clock ticks toward May 16, 2026. Let this not be a testament to neglect, but a statement of national appreciation.

“For decades, he served as an inspiration to millions and a mentor to countless players who followed. Yet, like too many of our sports heroes, his final years were marked by struggle rather than comfort.

“We have witnessed remarkable gestures from individuals who understand that a nation is judged by how it treats its heroes. We now urge all stakeholders to emulate this and ensure that Henry Nwosu is honoured in death as he was in life.”
