Despite not having high expectations for this tournament, Coach Ogunmoyero highlighted the significance of this preparatory phase.

“Well, not much expectations because I take this as a kind of way to prepare as it is the pre-season tournament. It is a way to just prepare ahead of the forthcoming league matches for the new season. We just take this to prepare ourselves, develop the boys, and prepare them for the task ahead. It is a preparation phase for me,” Coach Ogunmoyero explained while speaking with Sports247.

Reflecting on the team’s performance in their first game of the tournament, he acknowledged the players’ efforts and their growth since his arrival as head coach. He emphasized that, at this developmental stage, the players are still learning and improving.

“Well, they tried, they did well. Honestly, they are the boys that I have been training since last season I came into the team, and they have shown a lot of improvement and development. You don’t expect the boys to know it all at this phase because they are still in the developmental stage and they need to learn,” he commented.

Coach Ogunmoyero praised the team’s clean sheet in their first match, considering it a wonderful start to the tournament.

“For the game, they did well; you can see that from the scoreline. They were able to score 3 goals in this first match. Having a clean sheet all through the game is a very wonderful start for us in this tournament,” he added.

When asked about his feelings if he were on the opposing side, Coach Ogunmoyero emphasized the fluid nature of football. He explained that whether they win, draw, or lose a game, the focus is always on the next match and continuous improvement.

“Football is a game of three chances. It can come as a win, draw, or loss, and we find ourselves on one side. Normally if we lose a game, we just go back to the technical board, try to draw out something else, and prepare again for the next game. The previous game does not affect us. The upcoming game is more important than the past game. That is the mentality I try to imbibe in the knowledge of the boys,”* he stated.

Looking ahead to their next game, Coach Ogunmoyero expects a better performance from his team. He aims to address areas that need improvement and hopes to see the players perform at an even higher level.

“I expect them to come in here and do more than what they did today. For every game they play, we expect a better performance from them. Personally, I expect them to do better than what they did today,” he emphasized.

Regarding potential surprises in future games, Coach Ogunmoyero, drawing from his experience in football coaching, affirmed that surprises are part of the game. He is prepared to adapt to any situation and make tactical changes as needed.

“Yes, of course, the outcome of the game is what I, as the coach, cannot control. We can only try to adapt to the outcome and whatever comes in and try to make some tactical changes. For me, nothing comes as a surprise. Surprises would always show up. It is expected over my years of experience in football coaching,” he concluded.
