Kwara SWAN holds candle night for Fashikun Tuesday

The Kwara Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), has concluded arrangements to organise a candle night for its former chairman, Olajide Fashikun, who died in Abuja on Sunday after a brief illness.

A statement by the Secretary of the association in the state, Olayinka Owolewa, on Monday in Ilorin, said the association will be putting together the possession in collaboration with the state owned media houses.

The statement urged all SWAN and NUJ members in Kwara to dress in black over black and report to the State library in Post office latest by 6:00pm where the candle light possession will begin to Herald along Offa Road, Ilorin.

Owolewa explained that late Fashikun will be buried at his county home in Obbo Ayegunle, in Ekiti local government area of the state, according to information available to him.

According to the statement, the possession will begin from State Library through Muritala Muhammed way, to Lanjorin through Offa Road and terminate at the Herald Newspaper.

At the Herald Newspaper premises, a prayer session will hold for the late multi-sports athlete, journalist cum administrator.

The statement explained that a powerful delegation of Kwara SWAN led by Alloy Chukwuemeka, a national officer of the association would be joining sympathisers across the country in Obbo Ayegunle for the burial on Wednesday.

Owolewa said a family member of late Fashikun has also promised to join the possession.

The statement urged friends of the association to join in paying late Fashikun the last rest by been part of the candle night possession on Tuesday.
