The players and coaches of Kwara Football Academy (KFA) of Ilorin have received a change from their state government to ensure they win this year’s NextGen Africa Cup in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
Sports247 reports that the charge was given by the chairman of Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bolakale Mogaji, during an inspiring farewell message to the team, led by the academy’s administrator, Wale Obalola.
Mallam Mogaji urged the players, coaches and officials to represent the state and Nigeria with pride, discipline and excellence; while assuring them of more support from the state government, led Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The chairman reiterated the state governor’s unwavering commitment to nurturing young talents in various aspects of life, and acknowledged that sports remain key tools for youth empowerment and social development.
He pointed out that Governor AbdulRazaq again showed his commitment to youth development through sports by sponsoring the academy’s participation in the competition, where they will play the opening match at Stade Robert Champroux on Monday.
Mogaji stressed, “You are not just representing Kwara Football Academy, but the entire Kwara State and Nigeria at large. Go out there, compete with confidence, and make us proud.
“This administration will continue to invest in youth through sports. Our goal is to make Kwara Football Academy not just competitive in Nigeria, but a force across Africa and beyond.”
Sports247 reports that the contingent departed Ilorin with optimism, backed fully by the state to boost their confidence and determination, knowing that they carry hopes of a government that builds a strong sporting future.
Kwara Football Academy are in Group A alongside Olympic Sport of Côte d’Ivoire, Terenga Sporting Club of Senegal and their first opponent, Africa Foot of Mali; while Group B also has four top football academies as well.
Organisers say the competition is a platform for youngsters to exhibit their talent on an international stage, hence the decision by Kwara State government to use it as another milestone of its strategic investment in grassroots football development.
