Kwara Deputy Gov Alabi hosts legendary Peter Rufai

The Kwara State Deputy Governor, Mr Kayode Alabi has again stressed the need to use sports to eradicate poverty. Alabi stated this in Ilorin on Thursday while receiving former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai who is in the State for a youth programme tagged “Dodo Mayana soccerthon project”.

The Deputy Governor also emphasised the importance of sports and the need to use it to curb the menace of drug abuse and crime in the Society.

He noted that 90% of great sports stars are from a poor background who used their talents to improve their families and the Nation.

Alabi commended the initiative of the former goalkeeper and his desire to give back to the society promising government support for the project. “You can only be great by giving, as you give, God will lift you up” the Deputy Governor added.

Earlier, Rufai thanked the State government for its hospitability, support and encouragement. Rufai added that sports had helped him to acquire education which he never dreamt of.

The 1994 AFCON winner also commended the State for its youth-friendly sporting programmes explaining that he decided to float the project as his token to give back to the society.
