Kuwait and South Korea to host 2020 and 2021 AIPS Asia Congresses

The general assembly of AIPS Asia has unanimously ratified a previous agreement for Kuwait to host the upcoming AIPS Asia Congress in August 2020 and for the South Korean capital of Seoul to host the electoral congress of January 2021. It was also agreed that the tenure of the current Executive Committee will be extended by two months to guarantee the success of the upcoming elections process.

This decision was made in the concluding part of the 22nd AIPS Asia Congress, which was held in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, from 26 to 28 August 2019, with the participation of 24 countries. On the first day of Congress, the Executive Committee members had met to come up with recommendations, which were approved by the general assembly.

Alongside Kuwait and South Korea, the United Arab Emirates and Nepal also indicated interest in hosting the AIPS Asia Congress.

With Kuwait and South Korea granted the right to host the next two congresses, a consensus between Kuwait’s Sattam al-Sahli and South Korea’s Hee Don confirmed Kuwait for 2020 and South Korea for the electoral congress in 2021. Kuwait will host in August 2020, then South Korea takes over in January 2021.

A previous agreement between Sahli and Don stipulated that the former will succeed Bahraini Mohammed Qasim, while the latter will lead AIPS Asia from 2021.

Based on that, President of AIPS Asia Sattam al-Sahli has given his support to the South Korean candidate for the presidency in the next election cycle.
