Kuti, Uduak Emerge As Winners At The 2023 Renewed Hope Table Tennis Invitational Challenge In Lagos

Mathew Kuti and Hope Uduak Triumph in Men's and Women's Singles, Showcasing Exceptional Talent in Table Tennis

In a thrilling display of skill and determination, Mathew Kuti and Hope Uduak emerged as champions in the Men’s and Women’s Singles categories, respectively, at the 2023 Renewed Hope Table Tennis Invitational Challenge held at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Indoor Sports Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

The atmosphere was charged with excitement as Kuti, representing Lagos, showcased his international experience in the ping pong game, securing victory over Akinwale Fagbamila from Ondo State with a scoreline of 3-1 (11-6, 13-11, 11-4, 13-11).

The crowd witnessed a fierce five-set match where Kuti’s prowess and determination shone through, underscoring his commitment to excellence.

In an equally captivating Women’s Singles final, Hope Uduak from Bayelsa faced off against Shukurat Aiyelabegan from Kwara, ultimately emerging victorious with a score of 3-1 (4-11, 11-4, 11-5, 11-9).

Uduak’s remarkable comeback after losing the first set highlighted not only her resilience but also the fast-rising development of women in table tennis.

The top 16 players in both the Men’s and Women’s categories competed fiercely in a tournament sponsored by the Director General of Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Oluwatoyin Gafaar.

The event, named the “2023 Renewed Hope Table Tennis Invitational Challenge,” not only showcased outstanding athletic prowess but also served as a platform for young talents to renew their hope and strive for excellence.

In response to the event, Oluwatoyin Gafaar, the Director General of LSSC, delivered a congratulatory speech, commending the initiative and emphasizing its alignment with the developmental programs aimed at renewing the hope of young talented athletes.

He stated, “It’s part of our contributions to give back to the society and in line with the THEMES Plus agenda of Lagos State, which is inclusive.”

Gafaar extended appreciation to the Vice President of ITTF, Enitan Wahid Oshodi, and the leadership of NTTF for their unwavering support and efforts towards the growth of table tennis in Nigeria.
