Kenneth Anigboro, Patricia Mbata Lead Nigerian Boxers To Pre-Commonwealth Games’ Camp

Highly-promising male, Kenneth Anigboro and Africa Games women’s champion, Patricia Mbata top the list of 40 boxers invited to Nigeria’s national camp for the next stage of preparations towards the Commonwealth Games.

Sports247 gathered that Anigboro is at the head of 20 male boxers who will storm the camp later this month, while Mbata leads same number of women, following their superlative performances at the recent National Boxing Week in Lagos.

Their selections come after emerging among top finishers during the competition at Brai Ayonote Boxing Gym of Lagos National Stadium, Surulere and they will all be part of the penultimate phase of the build-up to Glasgow 2026 in Scotland.

Information provided by the media department of Nigerian Boxing Federation (NBF) further revealed that the selected boxers include winners, runners-up and semi-finalists as well as outstanding boxers from last week’s trials.

The men’s and women’s categories provided 20 invitees each, making a total of 40 boxers from which only 10 will be selected for the final phase and go on to represent Nigeria in Glasgow.

Anigboro is joined in the male cadre by Michael Ogunremi (55kg), Habeeb Qazeem (55kg), Wahab Abdulrahman (65kg), Ridwan Salim (65kg), Folly Hassan (70kg), Precious Nwoha (70kg), Joshua Daniel (80kg), Fawas Sharafadeen (80kg) and Abiodun Adesoji (90kg).

The females who will contest alongside side Mbata are Happiness Uddete (51kg), Fathia Gafar (51kg), Kadijat Ajisola (57kg), Aishat Gbadamosi (57kg), Damilola Sodipe (60kg), Abibat Ismail (60kg), Blessing Orakwe (70kg), Queen James (+70kg) and Celestina Odoka (+70kg).
