Kelechi Iheanacho’s Last-Gasp Penalty Keeps Celtic Title Dream Alive Ahead of Hearts Decider

Kelechi Iheanacho scored a dramatic 99th-minute penalty as Celtic snatched a thrilling 3-2 victory over Motherwell to keep the Scottish Premiership title race alive heading into a final-day showdown against Heart of Midlothian.

In one of the most dramatic matches of the season at Fir Park on Wednesday night, Celtic twice came from difficult positions before Iheanacho calmly converted a highly controversial stoppage-time penalty to hand the defending champions a crucial victory.

Motherwell had taken the lead in the 17th minute through Ellis Watt before Daizen Maeda restored parity for Celtic just before halftime.

The visitors then moved ahead in the 58th minute when Benjamin Nygren unleashed a superb strike into the top corner, but Motherwell fought back again as Liam Gordon equalised in the 85th minute to seemingly swing the title race in Hearts’ favour.

However, deep into added time, a contentious VAR review changed the game.

Referee John Beaton awarded Celtic a penalty after reviewing an incident involving defender Auston Trusty, and Iheanacho stepped up under immense pressure to slot home the winner in the 99th minute.

The dramatic victory means Celtic are now just one point behind Hearts ahead of Saturday’s decisive final-day clash in Glasgow. A win for Celtic against Hearts would now secure another Scottish Premiership crown.

The encounter capped another extraordinary chapter in a fiercely contested title race, with Celtic showing resilience once again in their pursuit of the championship.
