Kelechi Iheanacho In Fresh Storm At Celtic, As Club Chairman Steps Down

Out of favour Nigerian attacker, Kelechi Iheanacho is in a new wave of stormy waters at Celtic of Scotland, as pressure form the club’s fans has forced their chairman to quit.

Sports247 gathered that the arrival of Iheanacho from Sevilla of Spain is one of the thorny issues rocking the Glasgow-based club, as the fans continue raising eyebrows over The Bhoys’ summer transfer activities.

Iheanacho, who had previously been on loan at Middlesbrough in the English Championship arrived on the cards of his former coach at Leicester City, Brendan Rodgers.

However, the unceremonious departure of Rodgers just a month after the arrival of ‘Kelz’ left the former Manchester City of England attacker like fish out of water at Parkhead.

Sadly, he has been hit with two bouts of injuries, the latest of which erupted earlier this week, thereby leaving him unavailable for the new coach, Freddie Nancy, who previously coached him during a short spell at Columbus Crew of USA.

Iheanacho and Nancy will now be wary of what happens next, following reports that Celtic chairman, Peter Lawwell is stepping down from the club’s board due to ‘abuse and threats’ by the supporters.

A report by Sky Sports added: “The 66-year-old joined Celtic in 2003 as chief executive and held that position for 18 years, before returning in 2023 as non-executive chairman.

“However, he and other members of the club’s board have faced protests from supporters in recent months who have criticised their transfer activity and the long-term football strategy.

“During a turbulent spell off the pitch, there was also public questioning of the transfer process by former boss Brendan Rodgers, who resigned in October.”
