Katsina United’s Coach Azeez Audu Notes How Mistakes Caused 1-1 Home Draw With Barau FC

The coach of Katsina United, Azeez Audu has refrained from blaming an unruly crowd for his team’s 1-1 draw at home against Barau FC of Kano, as he put it down instead to mistakes by his players.

Sports247 reports that chaotic scenes erupted towards the end of this Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) encounter, following an equaliser by the visitors, but Audu opted to look inwards instead, with a promise to work on all loose ends of his squad.

He conceded, “We expected to take the whole three points, but we couldn’t because of the mistakes we made and things we can not control.

“So, we’ll just go back to the drawing board and try to make amends for our mistakes. I’ll just say Allahamdullahi for everything. Sometimes you win, other times you may draw or even lose.”

He also refused to take a swipe at the centre referee, with a view that the match official would not have been selected to take change of the game if he had been considered incapable of carrying out the task.

Audu parried further, “I don’t have anything to say about the officiating, because the referee is the man in charge of the game.

“Anything he does is his best. He’s the best for the task of officiating, and that’s why he was picked for this match. So, I can’t condemn him for that.”

He concluded with another look at the fans’ heated reactions after Barau’s equaliser, but stressed that it did not affect his players in any way.

“As for the fans, the way they see the game is different from the way we see it as professionals. So, when they see something that is not going right for them, they flare up.

“But that did not affect us. It’s just that we got our chances, and we could not convert them. That’s something we’ll continue to work on,” Audu assured.
