Katsina United secured a valuable 1–0 away victory over Kun Khalifat FC on NPFL Matchday 19, continuing their steady climb up the Nigeria Professional Football League table with a disciplined performance on the road.
The decisive moment of the encounter arrived in the 40th minute, when Richard Christopher rose highest in the penalty area to power home a thunderous header.

The well-taken effort proved enough to separate the two sides, giving Katsina United the advantage heading into the halftime break.
Kun Khalifat FC pushed for a response in the second half, increasing the tempo and committing numbers forward in search of an equaliser. The home side believed they had a chance to draw level following a penalty appeal, but the referee waved play on, a decision that stood despite strong protests.
Katsina United, however, remained composed under pressure, showing defensive organisation and game management to protect their slender lead until the final whistle. The result marked their second away win of the season, underlining a growing belief within the squad.
Speaking after the match, Katsina United head coach Azeez Audu highlighted the importance of mentality in the tightly contested NPFL campaign.
“The way the league is going now, nowhere is difficult to get three points; it all depends on the players’ mindset,” Audu said.
“When their mindset is set, they give you what you want. If we can also lose points, we can also get points elsewhere.”
On the contentious penalty decision involving the hosts, the Katsina United coach was measured in his response.
“The decision on the field is fully on the centre referee,” he added.
Audu also emphasised his team’s belief away from home, noting that confidence was key to their latest success.
“This is our second away win. We have the mentality of getting points anywhere, and we got them.”
The victory sees Katsina United move up to 10th place on the NPFL standings with 26 points, level with Bendel Insurance and Enyimba, and just three points adrift of the top five after 19 matches.
As the NPFL season enters a decisive phase, Katsina United’s ability to grind out results away from home could prove crucial in their push for a strong finish, with Matchday 19 providing further evidence of their growing confidence and competitive edge.
