Kanu Bemoans Recent Spate Of Deaths In Nigeria Football …Calls For Prayers For Football Community

Nigeria football has been hit by a recent spate of deaths, as three ex-international footballers were lost to the cold hands of death in less than a week apart from the other.

While Nigerians were getting to grips over the death of Sam Ikedi last week, the football community was rudely awakened Thursday, with the shocking news of the death of ex- Nigeria goalkeeper and assistant coach of Super Eagles, Joseph Eric, famously known as Joe Erico. And painfully, on Friday, the football community was once again hit with the demise of ex- Nigeria and Enugu Rangers star, Nwabueze Nwankwo.

In a condolence message signed by Nwankwo Kanu, who is the Chairman of Africa’s largest and fast-growing football academy, KIFA, the world-famous African legend described the deaths of these great Nigerian footballers as one death too many.

” I am still in shock over the deaths of these great Nigerians. This is one death too many. And without a doubt, Nigerian football and indeed, the whole Nigeria, will greatly miss them,” Kanu lamented.

” At this point in our national life, I call on fellow Nigerians to go down on our knees and pray fervently to God to heal our land. And help us put a stop to these deaths and other unfortunate incidents pervading the land,” the former captain of the Super Eagles and Arsenal of England great, who is fondly called King Kanu, by millions of football fans across the world, stated.
