In a disappointing turn of events, Nasarawa United fell short in the 4th edition of the Gusau/Ahlan Cup Pre-season Football Tournament Semi-Final derby clash, losing 0-2 to one of its arch-rivals, Plateau United, despite dominating possession and creating numerous scoring opportunities.
The first-half ended goalless, with both sides cancelling each other out.

The second-half proved to be a different story, as Plateau United took control of the game and scored two crucial goals in the 48th and 64th minutes through Joshua Dabo and Maren Kefas, and sealing their spot in the final against Kano Pillars who defeated Wikki Tourists FC in the first Semi-Final clash at the Lafia City Stadium earlier on Wednesday.
Wikki Tourists FC’s impressive run in the 2025 GusauAhlan Preseason Tournament came to an end in the semi final stage following a 2-0 defeat to Kano Pillars in Lafia.
Despite their spirited display, Kano Pillars capitalised on two key moments to secure the win including a spot kick.
Speaking after the game, Technical Adviser Abdu Maikaba praised his team’s effort and fighting spirit:
“We lost, but it was not in disgrace, my boys played a good game, but luck deserted us at crucial moments.
This tournament has given us the chance to see our new signings in action and to work on areas that need improvement ahead of the NPFL season,” he said
Wikki Tourists will now shift focus to the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League season, kicking off their campaign at home against Plateau United on Friday, 22nd August 2025, at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi.
