RC Lens have secured the signing of 16-year-old right-back Kamil Adebayo, one of France’s most highly rated young defensive prospects, from the Metz youth system. The move sees the Franco-Nigerian talent take the next step in his development after rejecting offers from seven other French clubs.
Adebayo, born in 2009, has already earned a reputation for his speed, tactical intelligence, and strong defensive instincts. His performances at youth level for Metz caught the attention of several Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 academies, but after careful consideration, the teenager opted for Lens, a club known for giving academy players a pathway to first-team football.

The young defender began his football journey in local youth setups before progressing into Metz’s academy structure. Over recent seasons, his consistency and maturity beyond his years have marked him as a standout. Those close to the player say the decision to join Lens was influenced by the club’s clear track record in developing defenders and promoting youth players into senior roles.
RC Lens’ academy is regarded as one of the most productive in France, having produced players who have gone on to enjoy success both domestically and internationally. The club’s focus on technical and tactical development, alongside exposure to competitive matches at a high level, offers Adebayo an environment designed to accelerate his progress.
In making the switch, Adebayo is targeting a place in the RC Lens first team in the coming years. The right-back will initially link up with the club’s youth squad but is expected to train occasionally with the senior side as part of his integration process.
The move underlines RC Lens’ commitment to investing in promising young talent and reflects Adebayo’s ambition to test himself in one of France’s most competitive footballing environments. Observers will now be watching closely to see how quickly the young defender can adapt to his new surroundings and push towards his professional debut.
