The President of Nigeria Judo Federation (NJF), Dr. Musa Oshodi has revealed a successful meeting with Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu, from which they received assurances of his total support towards this year’s IGP Championship.
Sports247 reports that Disu, who holds a 4th Dan black belt and is Life Patron of the NJF, promised more support for the sport and assured the federation’s delegation of his full backing for the 2026 IGP Judo Championship.
Dr. Oshodi disclosed that the assurance came after the delegation’s discussions with Disu, which centred on deepening collaboration between the federation and Nigeria Police Force, which has produced several of the country’s top judokas.
The NJF president added that the meeting was cordial, productive and inspiring, with an enthusiastic view that the IGP’s background as a former judo athlete gave the delegation additional confidence for fruitful gains after the discussions.
“We presented three key requests to the IGP. First, we sought his sponsorship and support for the 2026 IGP Judo Championships. Second, we proposed closer ties with the Nigeria Police to intensify their kinetic defence capability through judo.
“Third, we appealed to him to use his good office to attract individual and corporate sponsors to the federation. IGP Disu told us he is ready to partner with the federation in achieving its aspirations.
“He understands the values of discipline, resilience, and respect that judo instils, and he wants to see those values spread further within the Force and beyond,” Oshodi submitted with a tone of deep optimism.
