Nigerian-born former England youth international, Joshua Oghenetega Peter Onomah has dramatically moved to Dinamo Tbilisi of Georgia in search of opportunities that could help him revive his waning career.

Sports247 reports that the 28-year-old midfielder, who was born on April 27th, 1997 in Enfield, Greater London and last played for lower division side, Blackpool, makes the move after staying nine months without a club.
Georgia is now a resurrection point for Onomah, who came through the academy system at Tottenham Hotspur, from where he was invited to England’s cadet squad that won the 2014 UEFA European Under-17 Championship.
Onomah, who was also part of England’s youth team that won the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup, signed a year’s contract, with option of an additional one, for the Georgian Erovnuli Liga club last Friday, to get his career back on track in Eastern Europe.
However, the once-promising player, who has struggled to get regular football at every stop, after leaving Spurs in 2019, will have to hit the ground running at his new base, as he is on a short-term contract billed to run until December.
That gives Onomah about nine months to stamp his presence in the Georgian capital, where he will hope to rekindle a pedigree that includes a goal in 32 appearances with Spurs, during his four-year stint in North London.
He also had two loan spells at Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday, but finally left Tottenham in 2019 for their London rivals, Fulham, where he found the going tough and left Craven Cottage after netting five goals plus eight assists in 76 games.
His last port of call in England also ended in misery, as several injuries hindered his involvement at Blsckpool, and he left in June, but could not find another club during the summer and winter transfer windows, hence his move to Georgia.
Onomah is now hoping to settle down fast in Georgia, where the season started just a month ago, but he will have to pray against a repeat of a mysterious setback he faced when he joined Preston North End on a free transfer in January 2023.
He played 13 games for Preston in the Championship but, after his short-term deal expired, fresh terms could not be agreed in the summer, which the club’s then coach, Ryan Lowe said was due to administrative issues.
Lowe disclosed at that time: “We offered Josh a contract about a week before the season finished and we were in negotiations. Josh’s contract terms were agreed, but there’s been a lot of complications with the deal, which was out of our control.
“Unfortunately, we’ve had to move on to other targets, because we just couldn’t wait any longer. We wish Josh all the best and hopefully he gets back playing somewhere because he’s a talented boy. We just couldn’t wait any longer.”
Hopefully, Georgia will turn out to be a better terrain to turn around the stormy tale of Josh Onomah, who was even touted with a call-up to the Super Eagles during his glorious days at Spurs.
