Former Nigerian international and football pundit John Fashanu has expressed unwavering optimism about the Super Eagles’ chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Despite recent setbacks in the qualification campaign, Fashanu believes the team still has a viable path to success and insists that now is the time to support the players, not criticize them.
In an interview, Fashanu passionately urged fans to stay positive and rally behind the national team:
“We cannot be negative at this time. We need to be lifting these players. They are going to win all their remaining matches.”
He also highlighted the strength of Nigerian talent currently flourishing in European football, stressing the opportunity for a new golden generation to emerge.
“Apart from the Super Eagles squad, we have one, two, three, four, five Nigerian players doing well in Europe. They are scoring goals, they are young, and they want to showcase themselves at the World Cup.”
Fashanu emphasized that the road may not have started perfectly for Nigeria, but there is still every reason to remain hopeful:
“We may not have played and got good results from the beginning, but we need to remain positive. Nigeria as a country is doing well, and the world needs to see Nigeria at the World Cup.”
His remarks come at a crucial time, as the Super Eagles aim to bounce back and secure qualification in their remaining fixtures. Fashanu’s message is clear: belief, support, and positivity can help carry the team across the finish line and usher in the next generation of Nigerian football greatness.
