Jeremiah Azu Makes History With Double Gold In Men’s 60m, 200m

Nigerian-born sprinter, Jeremiah Azu made history for Wales at the UK Indoor Championships in Birmingham, England, as he clinched gold in both the 60m and 200m races under 24 hours apart.

Sports247 reports that Azu, the 2025 European Indoor Champion and 2025 World Indoor Champion over 60 metres, first set tongues wagging on Saturday when he took the UK men’s 60m title in 6.56sec.

The following day, Azu, who in 2024 became the first Welsh athlete ever to run the 100m under 10 seconds, completed a sprint double by winning the UK’s 200m in a personal best time of 20.77s.

He is also a five-time British champion, three time indoors winner over 60m, first placed once indoors over 200m, once outdoors over 100m and European champ in the 4x100m men’s relay.

Ironically, rather than identify with his Nigerian ancestry, the 24-year-old Azu, who was born in the Netherlands and raised in Wales, is registered officially as an athlete with Ghanaian descent
