James Peters Explains Low Quality In Eagles’ List

Former technical director of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), James Peters has admonished soccer fans to stop complaining about the low quality of players in the Super Eagles, as he believes they are the best available to the country for now.

Speaking to sports247.ng in reaction to the array of players invited for the double-Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Libya next week, ‘JP’ said Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has his hands tied in who to invite.

While many fans have spoken out against the repeated invitations handed to misfiring Odion Jude Ighalo and a couple of other non-achievers, the former Flying Eagles and under-23 gaffer said the days of top quality Nigerian players are gone.

Peters stated further that the era of having Nigerian players featuring in top European clubs is no longer there hence the recurrence of a particular set of players on the coach’s list of invitees.

He expatiated: “I do not agree with complaints from Nigerians over the invitation of some players constantly to the national team.

“It is those we have that the coach can invite, and I believe that the technical crew has done their best so far with what they have.

“The days are gone when we had the like of Nwankwo Kanu, Daniel Amokachi, Austin Okocha and so on, who were playing with top clubs and doing well with their respective teams.”
