Jagaban Cup: Hat-Trick Hero Bakare Confident Ahead of Ikorodu City Clash

Ayomide Bakare has expressed delight following his outstanding performance for Broad City FC, where he netted a brilliant hat-trick in their 5–2 victory over Mavlon FC on Matchday 1 of the Jagaban Cup 2026 at the National Stadium Surulere.

The forward, who became the first player to score three goals in this year’s competition, admitted the encounter was far from easy despite the convincing scoreline.

“I feel good despite the intensity of the game. Our opponents were not an easy side to play against,” Bakare said.

Ayomide credited his goals to teamwork and strong chemistry within the squad, emphasizing the role of collective effort in his individual success.

“All thanks to God and my teammates for the connection. The understanding within the team paved the way for those goals. Those goals are fantastic.”

Looking ahead, Bakare has already shifted focus to Broad City’s next challenge against Ikorodu City FC, a fixture expected to test their title ambitions.

“This isn’t our first time playing against a tough side like Ikorodu City. We will try to keep possession as usual, and a win for us will be crucial in deciding qualification for the final four.”

The winger also acknowledged the importance of the Jagaban Cup and similar competitions as stepping stones in the careers of young footballers in Lagos.

“We understand the platform and how it works. Competitions like the Jagaban Cup and Supremacy Cup are avenues for players to grow professionally. We will continue to do our best to stand out and be selected among the rest.”

With confidence high and momentum on his side, Bakare’s form could prove vital as Broad City FC push for a place in the latter stages of the competition.
