President of the Nigeria Arm-Wrestling Federation, Samuel Jackson, says the federation has now shifted full attention to the 2026 African Arm-Wrestling Championship in Ghana, after Nigeria’s commanding performance at the recently concluded West Africa Zone A & B Games, where the team won an impressive 18 medals.

Speaking proudly about the federation’s achievements, Jackson described Nigeria’s performance as a reflection of years of steady investment, improved coaching, and a new generation of athletes hungry for international success.
“Winning 18 medals shows how far we have come. But now our sights are set on the African Championship in Ghana next year,” he said.
Jackson explained that the 2026 championship is particularly crucial because it serves as a qualifier for the 2027 African Games, formerly known as the All African Games, scheduled to hold in Cairo, Egypt.
“The African Championship is not just another tournament, it is a pathway to the African Games. We want to qualify in strong fashion and build on our momentum,” he added.
He highlighted the federation’s progress over recent years, noting improvements in athlete welfare, training structures, and the development of both youth and senior competitors.
“Our board has worked tirelessly. We have expanded our grassroots programmes and created opportunities for new athletes to emerge,” Jackson stated.
However, he stressed that the federation will not relax despite recent success. Instead, preparation for the continental challenge will begin immediately, with intensified training, international exposure, and better technical support.
“We want to improve on what we did in West Africa. To do that, we must start early, prepare well, and push even harder,” Jackson said.
He also praised the commitment of the athletes, many of whom he said have shown remarkable discipline and determination despite limited resources and stiff competition.
“Our athletes have shown heart. They deserve all the credit. Now, we want to take them to the next level,” he added.
Jackson concluded with confidence that Nigeria will not only compete but aim for podium finishes at both the 2026 African Championship and the 2027 African Games.
“We are building something strong. Ghana 2026 will feel Nigeria’s presence.”
