Iwobi’s Arsenal spot threatened by Denis Suarez’s arrival

With Arsenal completing the signing of Barcelona winger Denis Suarez on loan till the end of the 2018/2019 league season several fans of the club have predicted that Super Eagles winger Alex Iwobi’s time as a main option for head coach Unai Emery may have come to an end.

Suarez joined the gunners on Thursday after completing a compulsory medical with the team doctors and is seen as a worthy addition to the gunners attacking prowess which currently boasts of the likes Lacazette, Aubameyang, Iwobi, Mkhitaryan and Welbeck who is currently out injured.

After the announcement fans have trooped to their social media pages to express their delight at the signing but fear the competition from the left attacking wing, which is Iwobi’s favorite position might be affected which will see the Nigerian star move out of the starting lineup.

One of those is Dr Kelechi Anyikude @KelechiAFC who says he is happy with the import of the Spanish star saying the competition will be a healthy one; “Denis IN, healthy competition in the squad will do Arsenal a world of good.”

@sbourgenforcer “Depends what system we play but I would guess Iwobi and Mhkitaryan will be the two biggest losers here. If Aubameyang takes a wing, Denis takes the other. Might even play behind the striker”

@wswilson17 “My thoughts on Suarez; immediate upgrade on Iwobi and can play behind striker as well. Makes sense considering Ramsey and Özil are out of favour. Plus Mkhitaryan is injured. Hard to find a world class striker on a permanent in Jan so loan deal makes sense.”

@wizthegooner “Denis Suarez is a far superior option to Guendouzi and Elneny at central midfield and he’s a far superior option to Iwobi at left wing.”
