Fulham delivered a composed and clinical second-half performance after a tightly contested opening 45 minutes ended goalless.
Iwobi proved decisive, scoring once and providing an assist to inspire the visitors to a crucial Premier League victory.
The breakthrough arrived in the 54th minute when Raúl Jiménez rose highest to power home a header from Iwobi’s well-delivered corner, handing Fulham a deserved lead.
The visitors quickly built on that momentum seven minutes later as Jiménez calmly converted from the penalty spot after Sunderland were penalised for a foul inside the area.
The home side attempted to spark a comeback in the 76th minute when Enzo Le Fée reduced the deficit with a penalty following a challenge by Ryan Sessegnon.
Sunderland briefly sensed an opening, but Fulham remained disciplined and in control of proceedings.
Any lingering hopes of a revival were extinguished five minutes from time as Iwobi capped an outstanding all-round display.
Racing onto a swift counter-attack, the Nigerian international showed great composure to finish calmly after being set up by Harry Wilson, sealing all three points.
The result lifted Fulham into the top half of the table and marked a timely return to winning ways for Marco Silva’s side.
For Iwobi, it was a statement performance, combining creativity, intelligence and composure as Fulham continue their push towards a potential European place.
