The week-long event, part of the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors, showcased Nigeria’s growing presence in junior tennis, with several home players advancing to championship matches across singles and doubles categories.
In the boys’ singles final, American youngster David Beckles emerged champion, underlining his strong form throughout the tournament.
Beckles also doubled his success by partnering Morocco’s Ghali Erraji to claim the boys’ doubles title.
The girls’ singles crown went to China’s Haolin Wang, who overpowered Nigeria’s Goodnews Eyinjoluwa Aina in the final. Wang’s composure and consistency proved decisive, despite spirited resistance from the Nigerian teenager.
Nigeria’s hopes in the girls’ doubles also ended in disappointment as Hyeju Jang and Jiwoo Jang defeated the pairing of Nigeria’s Khadijat Eleojo Mohammed and Czech Republic’s Denisa Dudlova in the final.
In the boys’ doubles final, the Nigerian duo of Aminu Ibrahim and David Omozukpia Edwards put up a determined display but were outclassed by the second-seeded combination of Beckles and Erraji.
Although Nigeria finished the tournament without a title, the presence of local players in three finals was widely seen as a positive sign for the country’s junior tennis development.
Coaches and officials noted that the experience gained from competing deep into the tournament against high-level international opposition would be crucial for the players’ growth.
The J30 Abuja event, played on outdoor hard courts, was one of two junior ITF tournaments hosted in the Nigerian capital in February 2026, further reinforcing Abuja’s status as a rising hub for junior tennis in West Africa.
While silver finishes may have defined the final outcome, Nigeria’s deep run at ITT J30 Abuja 2026 offered renewed optimism and valuable exposure as the young stars continue their journey on the global junior tennis circuit.
