Dr. Cosmas Maduka, the renowned Nigerian industrialist once shared a hilarious story of a period when his mother came on a visit from the eastern part of the country. He decided to show her around the best parts of Lagos. When they drove past a high-rise building he would say: “Mama, one day I will buy that building.”
He noticed she looked at him in utter disbelief, but he didn’t care. Soon, they drove past another skyscraper, and he repeated the same statement. As they drove past another high-rise building and he was about to make the same statement, his mother cut in abruptly,“Cosmas, stop this car. I say stop this car. How in the world are you going to buy such huge buildings as these? Don’t you remember your humble background? You must be mad! Let me out of your car- I will find my way home.” She got off the car, and he zoomed off. He did accomplish his dreams.
