Nigerian-born former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight champion, Israel Adesanya has come out with a strong prediction that a night of bouts for the sport will soon hold in Africa.
Sports247 reports that, while some less-glamourous Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) promotions have taken place in Nigeria and South Africa, Adesanya is of a view that the biggest of them all will soon come to the continent.

‘The Last Style Bender’ is of a view that UFC holds the aces in terms of all MMA platforms, and he quickly keyed into recent comments by the body’s president, Dana White, about the possibility of taking a fight night to Africa.
A report by UK’s SunSport recalled, “At one point, three African-born fighters, Adesanya, who headlines UFC Seattle this weekend against Joe Pyfer, as well as Kamaru Usman and Francis Ngannou, all held belts in the promotion.
“Their simultaneous rulings of the welter, middle and heavyweight divisions led to a swathe of calls for the promotion to make its maiden visit to the continent. Bringing an event to Africa is extremely high on UFC supremo Dana White’s bucket.
“The 56-year-old promoter told SunSport: ‘It’s very realistic in the next five years. It’s very big for me, it’s a must. I have to get it done. It’s not just, ‘Oh, I’d like to do it.’ It’s, ‘I gotta get this done.’”
Adesanya added, “Crazier things have happened in the UFC. It will happen, it will happen. I guarantee you. I hope (it will happen) in my time. If not in my time, I’ll still be there when it happens. But I guarantee you it will happen.”
Sports247 also recalls that New Zealand-based Adesanya became the first African-born fighter to be inducted into the UFC’s Hall of Fame last June, while his epic 2019 showdown against Kelvin Gastelum was etched into the Fight Wing.
