Island All Stars’ Above-45 Competition Begins With Exciting Match, Plus Praises Galore For Sponsors

This year’s Above-45 recreational football competition began on Saturday under the banner of Island All Stars Club (IASC), whose vice-president,Ben Ijezie heaped praises galore on the competing teams and their sponsors.

Sports247 was on ground live at Lagos Business School (LBS) Sports Arena in Lekki, as the competition among veterans began with pomp and pageantry, highlighted by Team Lush’s victory over Team Akuruoulu 6-5 on penalties, after a 1-1 end to regulation time.

Right after the pulsating encounter, Ben Ijezie disclosed in an exclusive interview with Sports247 that all members of IASC were very happy with the commencement of a new season for the club and he went on to thank their sponsors for making it possible.

Ijezie disclosed, “We are having our above-45 tournament, which is in our tradition to usher in our club’s events for the year. It was a very interesting start between Team Akuruoulo and Team Lush.

“People that were there will attest to the fact that both teams performed very well. But, as it is in football, a winner must emerge. Fortunately for Team Akuruoulo, they emerged victorious.”

He went on to shower accolades on the winning team, their opponents, all members of the club and two of their sponsors for making Saturday’s start very exciting, while also promising better days ahead of Island All Stars under their new dispensation.

“We congratulate Team Akuruoulo for their resilience and for the commitment they have shown so far. We also thank our sponsors – Joe Lush and Akuruoulo – for stepping forward to make this tournament a reality.

“We also think all our match ambassadors, so many of them to mention. We appreciate all of them and the entire members of Island All Stars Club.

“We thank everybody for their support, and we look forward to our major tournament for the year,” Ijezie projected with enthusiasm
