International Pro Tennis Returns to Lagos as Lagos Lawn Tennis Club Set to Host M25 & W35 Events After Seven-Year Hiatus

International professional tennis is officially making a long-awaited return to Lagos as the historic Lagos Lawn Tennis Club prepares to host the M25 and W35 Lagos Open tournaments later this year.

The highly anticipated ITF World Tennis Tour events will take place in October and November at the iconic Onikan-based venue, marking the first Lagos Open professional tournament in about seven years.

According to tournament organisers, the competition will feature two legs of the $35,000 events, bringing top international and local tennis talents back to Nigeria’s biggest tennis stage.

Tournament Director Prince Wale Oladunjoye confirmed that plans to revive the tournament had been ongoing for months in collaboration with the Nigeria Tennis Federation.

“We have been working on this with the NTF for a few months now, to resuscitate it,” Oladunjoye stated.

The event’s return has already generated excitement across the Nigerian tennis community, especially after confirmation from the International Tennis Federation that the Lagos Open dates have now been officially approved.

The last notable Lagos-hosted editions saw players like Calvin Hemery and Sada Nahimana emerge champions in the men’s and women’s singles categories respectively.

The revival of the tournament is expected to provide Nigerian players with a rare opportunity to earn valuable ATP and WTA ranking points on home soil while reducing the financial burden of competing abroad.

Beyond ranking opportunities, the competition is also expected to boost tennis development, attract international attention, and re-establish Lagos as a key destination for professional tennis in Africa.
