Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has celebrated Team Lagos for their exceptional performance at the 2025 National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, describing their achievement as a reflection of the true Lagos spirit of excellence, resilience, and distinction.
Team Lagos made history by finishing first on the overall medal table for the first time since the inception of the Games, amassing a total of 110 medals — 52 gold, 32 silver, and 26 bronze — to dethrone host state Delta and emerge champions of the youth competition designed for athletes under 15 years old.

At a special reception held in their honor at the Lagos State House, Ikeja, Governor Sanwo-Olu commended the young athletes, coaches, and officials for their remarkable effort and discipline, praising them for bringing pride to the state and the nation.
“They brought home an impressive 110 medals and emerged overall champions. Their dedication, discipline, and passion reflect the true Lagos spirit,” the Governor said. “In Lagos, we don’t just show up, we stand out.”
He further assured that his administration will continue to invest in youth sports development by providing the right facilities, incentives, and mentorship for young talents to thrive. The Governor also emphasized the importance of balancing sports with education, encouraging the athletes to remain focused as they pursue excellence on all fronts.
Sanwo-Olu lauded the leadership of the Lagos State Sports Commission, led by Mr. Lekan Fatodu, for its strategic vision and commitment to grassroots sports.
Also in attendance was the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, Hon. Adeyinka Adeboye, who praised the Governor’s unwavering support for sports and described Team Lagos’ success as a major boost for Nigeria’s future champions.
