Imo Born Chimdi Ejiogu Emerges Vice President Weightlifting Federation Of Africa …Assures To Raise The Standard Of The Game

Imo State-born Sir Chimdi Ejiogu has emerged as the Vice President Weightlifting Federation of Africa(WFA)and member executive board after receiving votes of the elective congress in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi. This was held alongside the African Olympic qualifiers for the Tokyo Olympic Games in July 2021.

Speaking after his emergence, the brand new Vice President noted that “The goal of the Weightlifting Federation of Africa is to lift up the sport and get the standards up in the African continent.

“Yes, like many sports in Africa we are still coming up but in weightlifting, we have an advantage that it is basically a power game and Africans by nature are strong and so have very high potentials in weightlifting” He added. This was during a world press conference aired by Kenya Broad Corporation(KBC) in Nairobi.

In the same event, a Libyan, Engr. Khaled Mehalhel, who was no doubt a clear favorite, won the votes at the Congress to emerge the President and Mr. Manneredin Esheli also of Libya emerged as secretary-General of the Federation, both for a third consecutive tenure. The constitution of the weightlifting federation stipulates that the President and Secretary-General should come from the same country for ease of administration.

Engr. Khaled assured to devout his tenure this time in further developing and cleaning up the sport in the continent.

Dr. Kevin Du Plooy of South Africa and Ejiogu’s fellow vice-presidents are Ahmed Chahnaoui of Morocco, Boukar Tikire of Cameroon, and the Egyptian Mahmoud Mahgoub, who also sits on the Executive Board of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF)
