I’m Optimistic About the Future of Nigerian Athletics- AFN President Tonobok Okowa

President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Chief Tonobok Okowa, has expressed strong optimism about the future of Nigerian athletics, as he graced the ongoing AFN National Championships at the Yabatech Sports Complex in Lagos.

Speaking at the championship venue, Chief Tonobok Okowa pointed out the impressive turnout of talent and the high level of competition as signs that the sport is on the right path.

“What we are witnessing here is a testament to the bright future of track and field in Nigeria,” he said. “The commitment from our athletes, coaches, and officials shows that we are building something special. Under Okowa’s leadership, the AFN has taken strategic steps to reposition athletics in the country through grassroots development.

“Our vision is to create a sustainable system where every Nigerian athlete has a clear pathway to excellence,” he added. “With the right investment and continued unity within the athletics family, Nigeria will reclaim its place among the top nations in global athletics.”

As the National Championships continue, all eyes are on the track & field, but the renewed spirit and leadership of the AFN under Chief Tonobok Okowa are laying the foundation for long-term success.
