Ikorodu City Dare Beyond Limit With ‘Team-B’ In Supremacy Cup Final On Thursday

Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) high fliers, Ikorodu City FC of Lagos will be in action with their B-squad this Thursday against Beyond Limit Football Academy of Ikenne in the final of Supremacy Cup 2025.

Sports247 gathered that Ikorodu City’s chairman, Sanmi Doherty gave the nod for their second team to prosecute the competition in order not to distract the senior squad, which is currently waxing strong in the NPFL.

Doherty also reckoned that The Oga Boys’ B-squad should be the ones to participate in the annual youth football competition instead of their feeder team due to the fact that foreign scouts are in attendance.

In spite of all odds staked against them in the competition that began on Monday at Legacy Pitch of Lagos National Stadium, the B-squad surged into the final with a 2-2 draw against the host’s team, 36 Lion FC, who had to slot home a very late direct free kick in order to pull level.

Ikorodu City initially had to come from behind, after 36 Lion went ahead with a well struck goal through a melee in the opponents’ box, but The Oga Boys stormed back stronger.

Ikorodu City then maintained control of the game, and 36 Lion’s owner, Hajj Gafar Olawale Liameed, the chairman of Lagos State Football Association (LSFA), had to start earnestly barking instructions from the VIP box.

However, despite his efforts, plus technical instructions dished out on the sidelines by their head coach, Akinsola Akinrele (aka Arigo), 36 Lion could not get the victory they needed to reach Thursday’s final, and they also failed to end a jinx that has stopped them from winning the event hosted by their owner.

On the other hand, Wednesday’s draw in the star match at Legacy Pitch was good enough to take Ikorodu City’s B-team into the finale, where they will now try to upstage the defending champions, Beyond Limit, who lost to Real Sapphire earlier same day, but had already qualified top of their group.

“We came here with our B-team because we want to provide a foundation of continuous growth from the lowest level into our senior squad in the Nigerian top flight league,” said Ikorodu City’s coordinator, Richard Okwashi.
