The 5th edition of the Jagaban Cup kicked off with immense excitement at the Legacy Pitch, National Stadium, Surulere on Thursday morning.

The opening match showcased the defending champions SGFC Athletics going up against 36 Lion, who emerged victorious with a score of 3-1.
Uche Emeribe scored the tournament’s first goal in the 15th minute, followed by a second goal from Azuka Alatan in the 26th minute.
SGFC Athletics managed to find the net through Okwuosa Chukwudi, but Lion sealed their win with a late goal from Michael Hunsa.
In the second match, Ikorodu City FC narrowly overcame Smart City FC with a score of 3-2. Farouk Salami initiated the scoring for the Oga Boys, who controlled the first half.
Smart City attempted a comeback in the second half, but Ikorodu City held on to their lead to secure the victory.
Klassisc FC recorded a 1-0 win against FC Bethel, thanks to a penalty converted by Charles Obani in the 25th minute.
Concluding the day, the final match was an exciting seven-goal showdown between Mavlon and Broad City, with Broad City winning 5-2.
Meanwhile, tournament coordinator Wale Joseph commended the quality of play exhibited by the teams on the opening day.
“The standard of football was exceptional, and we are thrilled to see so many young players giving their all. Our scouts are in attendance, and we are keen to see which players they will be closely observing as the tournament progresses,” reflected the seasoned journalist and administrator.
“We are concentrating on the quality of football, and we have noted some remarkable performances so far. Our goal is to foster young talent, and this tournament is vital to that mission. We are excited about the days ahead – it is sure to be exhilarating,” he concluded.
