Iheanacho’s Battling Lack Of Confidence – Rohr

Leicester City of England attacker, Kelechi Iheanacho will have to rebuild his confidence level in order to get his career back on track, as his form continues floundering for club and country.

Gernot Rohr spoke at the journalists’ hangout packaged Hotsports Media, sponsored by makers of Peak Milk, the official milk of the Super Eagles.

Sports247.ng learnt that this is the verdict of Super Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr, who admitted Iheanacho was not in good form for last weekend’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa.

Rohr then almost left Iheanacho out of his squad for Tuesday’s friendly against Uganda in Asaba, only to send the former Manchester City youngster on for the last two minutes at Stephen Keshi Stadium.

However, the Franco-German gaffer has now admitted that Iheanacho needs support to get his career back on track, and says he has been discussing the issue with Leicester coach, Claude Puel.

Rohr admitted that Iheanacho’s current dip in form in the national team is due to his problems at the club level, but predicted that the UAE 2013 FFIA U-17 World Cup most valuable player will soon bounce back to his best abilities.

Rohr stated: “We have all seen how Iheanacho has been playing for the national team. He is a good player and his fighting spirit is second to none. But of late, his form has dropped.

“So also is his self-confidence, which is very low. And when you lack self-confidence you cannot score goals.

“He missed what would have been our first goal in South Africa. But I believe it is a temporary setback. He will overcome and bounce back because he is a very good player.”
