Veteran sports journalist and administrator Oluwatoyin Ibitoye has been officially crowned the 2025 Family United by Sport (FUBS) Personality of the Year, following a modest but well-organised presentation ceremony held on Monday in Lagos.

The FUBS admins expressed appreciation to Taye Ige, who graciously hosted the event at short notice in his office. Described as a warm and thoughtful host, Ige ensured a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere for all attendees.

Friends, colleagues, and stakeholders turned out to celebrate Ibitoye, with the organisers offering prayers and goodwill to everyone present for their continued support of the FUBS vision.

Ibitoye attended the ceremony alongside his wife, fondly referred to by him as his “MD.” She was praised for her unwavering support through the years, especially during periods when Ibitoye’s professional duties required extensive travel following Nigeria’s national teams.

Her role in holding the family together during his time as Super Eagles Media Officer and later as an aide to a Minister of Sports was acknowledged as central to his success.

During the brief ceremony, Kweku Tandoh, Chairman of the FUBS Personality of the Year Electoral Committee, explained the transparent process behind the selection of the winner. He commended Seyi Akinwunmi and his team for establishing the electoral framework that guided the process.

Special appreciation was also extended to notable sports stakeholders including Harry Iwuala, Pius Ayinor, Waidi Akanni, Charles Anazodo, Onye Nwachukwu, and Ntiense Williams for their continued support of the initiative.
In addition to receiving the commemorative plaque, Oluwatoyin Ibitoye was presented with a ₦250,000 cash prize, rounding off a well-deserved recognition of a career defined by dedication, integrity, and service to Nigerian sports.
