Achi Nnaemeka Augustine, a dynamic central midfielder formerly with Sunshine Stars of Akure, has opened up about his impressive individual performance during the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, despite his team suffering relegation.
“It was a difficult season for us as a team, but I made up my mind to keep pushing and remain consistent,” Nnaemeka said. “I worked hard to stand out even in relegation, because that’s what professionals do. Every game was a chance to show what I could offer.”

Known for his box-to-box style, precise long passes, and high defensive work rate, Nnaemeka was a regular standout in Sunshine Stars’ struggling campaign. He often controlled the tempo in midfield, broke up plays, and helped transition the team from defense to attack—even as results failed to turn in the club’s favor.
Nnaemeka returned to Sunshine Stars ahead of the 2024/25 season after a stint with Remo Stars and was one of 21 players signed in an ambitious rebuild. Despite the influx of talent, the team was relegated to the Nigeria National League.
“Now that I’m a free agent, I’m looking forward to a new challenge—whether in the NPFL, elsewhere in Africa, or beyond,” he said. “I’m ready to give my best wherever I go. I believe this last season proved I’m ready for the next level.”
With his contract now expired, Nnaemeka is exploring new opportunities and remains open to clubs seeking a composed, hard-working, and experienced presence in midfield.
