Napoli rounded off their unforgettable campaign with win number 28 of the season on the final game day of the season as Luciano Spalletti’s men ran out 2-0 victors over Sampdoria in front of a packed and raucous crowd at the Stadio Maradona.
Victor Osimhen struck from the penalty spot just after the hour mark, before Giovanni Simeone added a second with five minutes to play. Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for, when the team was finally able to lift the Scudetto trophy into the sky, it was rapturous as the team lifted Spalletti into the sky in an emotional send-off after he stated that he won’t continue with the team.
The Nigerian striker reeled in excitement after the trophy and award presentation – “we’ve won the Scudetto and we have to believe we can win it again. I’m happy here in Naples and there’s a very strong group here.”
The striker also sent a message to Luciano Spalletti: “I wish the coach good luck in everything. He was the builder of this success and he deserves all the happiness we are feeling now.”
“I want to thank everyone I’ve met in these two years,” Spalletti said in his final press conference.
