Ademola Lookman has written a heartfelt open letter to Atalanta fans, expressing gratitude for his time at the club while revealing his frustration over a blocked transfer move.
The Nigerian forward, who has spent three years in Bergamo, reflected on his journey with La Dea, highlighting the historic Europa League triumph as one of the proudest moments of his career.
“Over the past three years at Atalanta, I’ve given absolutely everything not just as a footballer but as a person,” Lookman wrote. “Winning the Europa League and celebrating with our fans in Dublin was unforgettable. This club and its supporters have become a part of me, and Bergamo has felt like home from the moment I arrived.”
However, Lookman disclosed that despite an agreement with the club to allow his exit should a fair offer arrive, Atalanta has prevented a potential move.
“Sadly, despite receiving an offer aligned with what was previously discussed, the club is blocking the opportunity for reasons I do not understand,” he stated. “After months of broken promises and poor treatment, I feel I have no choice but to speak out. I have now handed in a formal transfer request.”
The 26-year-old maintained that his decision is not against the fans, who he described as “the heartbeat of this club,” apologizing for the situation.
“I’m truly sorry it has come to this. I hope you understand this incredibly difficult decision. The support you’ve given me has been incredible, and the bond we share is special,” he added.
Lookman concluded by expressing hope that an amicable resolution can be reached soon to allow him to embark on a “new adventure” in his career
