Hunt Explains Ndah’s Midfield Switch in Stellenbosch Win

Gavin Hunt has shed light on his tactical decision to deploy Olabiran Ndah in midfield during Stellenbosch FC 2–1 victory over Chippa United.

The Super Eagles defender, naturally a centre-back, was handed a surprise role in central midfield due to a shortage of available options in that area.

Hunt revealed that the decision was largely influenced by necessity, with limited midfield personnel fit for selection.

“We don’t really have midfield players available. We had one on the bench, central midfield players, so I am going to play you there.

It’s easier for you; you are not going to be under pressure,” Hunt explained, recalling his pre-match conversation with Ndah.

Despite playing out of position, Ndah adapted well and contributed to a solid team performance as Stellenbosch secured all three points.

His defensive awareness and composure on the ball helped provide balance in midfield, ensuring stability throughout the contest.

Hunt also emphasized his preference for minimal tactical disruption, opting for a simple adjustment rather than overhauling the team structure.

“There’s a good old saying: don’t make too many changes to make a change. So, I just made one change and put him in.”

The victory highlights both the squad’s adaptability and the coach’s pragmatic approach, with Ndah’s versatility proving valuable in a challenging situation.

As Stellenbosch continue their campaign, such flexibility within the squad could play a crucial role in navigating injuries and maintaining consistency in results.
