Sports247 gathered that Chelsea were able to beat off Manchester United to get the 17-year- old left-back because The Red Devils lodged a flimsy bid in the region of £450,000 and it was promptly rejected by Wednesday.

Apart from United, Liverpool were also said to be in talks with Alao, but The Blues finally won the race for the youngster, who has already played five games for Wednesday’s first team this season.

Another card that Chelsea’s top brass threw into the transfer battle for the left-back was that included in their offer to Wednesday add ons beyond the initial fee of £600,00, with the contract rising eventually to a total of £6m.

A report by UK’s Standard Sport added, “Chelsea confirmed the transfer on Monday afternoon, revealing he has signed a two-year deal, with the left-back agreeing a contract with The Blues until 2028.”

A profile of the youngster provided by The Chelsea Chronicle noted in part, “Yisa Marcus Alao was born in Doncaster, England, on 17 November 2008, and joined Sheffield Wednesday’s youth team as an under-7.

“Alao is six feet, one inch tall (1.85 metres), the same height as Chelsea stars Cole Palmer and Wesley Fofana. Alao is a left-sided player who can operate as a full-back, wing-back or winger.

“He has featured on the left of a back five most recently for Sheffield Wednesday. The youngster has the traits of a modern wing-back, physically gifted and comfortable on the ball.

“(However,) he will need to improve his defensive skills and contributions in the final third. He made his debut in The Owls’ 2-2 EFL Cup first-round draw against Bolton, coming on in the 81st minute.”
