Historic Debut: Nigeria Breaks Ground at Winter Youth Olympic Games in South Korea

The nation has made its inaugural appearance at the Winter Youth Olympic Games currently underway in Gangwon, South Korea.

This historic milestone not only signifies Nigeria’s maiden presence at the Winter Youth Olympics but also positions the country as the first African nation to qualify for the event, showcasing a delegation of six athletes competing in the sport of curling.

The achievement was officially announced in a statement from the Media Office of the Honourable Minister of Sports Development, Sen. John Owan Enoh, on Monday.

Nigeria‘s foray into the world of winter sports commenced in 2018 when the nation attained the distinction of being the first African member of the prestigious World Curling organization.

The Winter Youth Olympic Games, scheduled to run from January 19 to February 1, 2024, provide a global platform for young athletes to showcase their prowess and compete on the international stage.
