HANDBALL: UNDER 18 AND 21 HANDBALL CHAMPIONSHIP COMMENCES IN LAGOS

The under 18 and under 21 national handball championship commenced on Sunday at Rowe Sports center with much funfair, sports247.ng gathers.

 

According to the Media Assistant to HFN President, Cosmos Chukwuemeka Akisi, he said that the first national championship in the calendar of the Handball Federation of Nigeria saw the ladies slugging it out in the first game of the championship as Lagos lost very narrowly to Mind Scope 26-25 in the under 18 category for women to set the pace for the excitement the fans will get in the championship.

The President of HFN was very glad at the result and praised Mind Scope, an academy trained team for proving themselves against an accomplished Lagos side.

“This is what we have been looking forward to where academy trained teams will defeat state teams.

It shows the game is beginning to spread to different parts of the country and we look forward to more academies joining our national championships so we can discover more talents” Ocheho concluded.

In the under 21 category for men, Kwara trounced Bayelsa 38-29 while Lagos inflicted a heavy defeat on Nasarawa 55-31 to the delight of the home fans.

It will be recalled that the Director of Sports of Kwara Mallam Tunde Kazeem had boasted that they are coming to lagos to win the championship and His wards have started on a good note.

It is left to be seen how far they are ready and willing to carry on in this championship.

Games continue tomorrow at the Rowe Park Sports Center, Yaba as teams battle each other to win the championship.
